Workplace Menopause Support: B&M Care’s Commitment to Staff Wellbeing

Menopause is a natural life stage that affects over half the population, yet for many women, its symptoms are still misunderstood, underestimated, or even dismissed,  particularly in professional settings. At B&M Care, we believe that providing meaningful workplace menopause support is essential. Supporting our care workers through every stage of life isn’t just important; it’s fundamental to building an inclusive, respectful, and compassionate working environment.

In a profession that demands both emotional resilience and physical stamina, these symptoms can make the working day more challenging. Recognising and responding to this is crucial in the care sector, where around 82% of workers are women, many of whom fall within the menopausal age bracket.

Working in residential and dementia care is a deeply rewarding profession, but it can also be physically and emotionally intense at times. For team members experiencing menopause, a lack of understanding or flexibility at work can lead to increased stress and even burnout.

At B&M Care, we understand that caring for others starts with caring for our staff. That’s why we are committed to offering meaningful workplace menopause support, as part of our values-led wider focus on wellbeing in the workplace.

  • Access to support resources. Staff have access to information and advice about menopause and workplace wellbeing, helping them feel more informed and in control.
  • Breathable, flexible uniforms designed with comfort in mind. We provide two new uniforms per year for all care staff, making it easier to stay fresh and comfortable throughout the day.
  • A culture of understanding and inclusion, where staff are encouraged to speak openly with the appropriate person about health concerns, including menopause. All conversations are treated with sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Wellbeing-focused leadership. Our Home Managers receive guidance on how to recognise menopause symptoms, and support staff with empathy and fairness.
  • Flexible working arrangements, where possible, to accommodate fluctuations in health and energy levels. We aim to promote work-life balance across all roles.
