By assisting in the preparation of ingredients, maintaining a clean kitchen and supporting the cook with meal preparation where needed, our kitchen assistants help provide an enhanced dining experience and better quality of life for our residents.
We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant to ensure the cleanliness and hygienic appearance of the kitchen, cleaning all equipment according to the cleaning schedule. You will also assist the Cook when and where necessary in preparing vegetables during busy periods.

Kitchen Assistant Duties and Responsibilities
- To clean the cooker, oven hot plate, Bain Maries, and all other equipment including Fridges and Freezers as per the cleaning schedule.
- Collect all dinnerware and cutlery from dining area and ensure the safe loading of the dishwasher.
- To follow the cleaning schedule as directed by the Head Cook.
- To deal with the waste bags in accordance with health & safety and infection control procedures.
- Ensure that tea trolleys and trays are kept clean at all times.
- Ensure the dishwasher is maintained to required standard as per cleaning schedules.
- Restock paper towels and soap dispenser.
- Ensure that dishcloths and tea towels are taken to the laundry each day.
- Clean saucepans, pots and all kitchen utensils as well as kitchen sinks and work surfaces as directed by Head Cook or Assistant Cook.
- Keep kitchen units clean both inside and out.
- Sweep and mop kitchen and larder cupboard floor each day.
- Assist cook in the preparation of vegetables and at very busy periods where necessary.
- To attend all training sessions and staff meetings.
- Serve breakfast and assist or serve lunch and supper as directed by Head Cook or Assistant Cook.
- Any other duties that the Head Cook and Assistant Cook require.

Skills, Characteristics and Experience
Essential
- Hold a Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 or above.
- Ability to work under pressure and to be a team player.
- Ability to effectively communicate with different departments.
- To uphold confidentiality at all times.
- Flexibility within working hours to include weekend and varied shifts.
Desirable
- Hold a clean full UK driving licence.
- Previous relevant experience.
- Desire to develop within role.
