Your Role

JOB DESCRIPTION

B&M Care is seeking a HVAC Engineer, reporting to the Head of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, to manage our heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems to minimise energy usage.The role will involve servicing, calibrating and maintaining the various systems and working closely with the staff within our homes to ensure that the systems are operated in accordance with best practice.

*Key Tasks *

Key tasks will involve:
• Servicing, maintaining and repairing air conditioning and mechanical ventilation systems;
• Setting up and maintaining existing heating and cooling systems to work in harmony with one another and adjusting systems in line with the different seasons;
• Assessing electricity and gas usage in the homes and making recommendations to deliver further energy savings;
• Educating care home staff (handypersons, Care Home Managers etc) regarding energy saving best practice; and
• Other useful tasks will involve monitoring the operation of water softeners and carrying out other tasks such as calorifier cleaning to ensure that these systems operate effectively (desirable-non essential).

Key Requirements

The company require have the following qualifications and attributes;

• Minimum post apprentice 5 years’ HVAC experience;
• A good understanding of mechanical services and preventative services;
• Proven experience working on residential and commercial properties;
• C&G/ NVQ Qualification in either Electrical, Mechanical or HVAC with relevant on the job and demonstrable suitable experience;
• City & Guilds FGAS Qualified;
BMS Operational Knowledge (desirable-non essential);
• Significant knowledge and experience of building services;
• Experience and familiarisation with commercial heating and cooling systems;
• Experience in servicing, repairing and maintaining to a high standard, including the ability to diagnose defects and accurately report the findings;
• Competent to undertake first line fault finding, pipework, plumbing and basic electrical works (desirable, not essential);
• The ability to review work on site and identify the most efficient methods of repairing/maintaining/operating systems and reporting the findings;
• The ability to effectively communicate with the company’s management team;
• Full driving licence is essential;
• A DBS check will be essential for all candidates;
• Current holder of a CSCS card is preferable but not essential;
• Degree of flexibility in working hours and mobility will be required;
• A good standard of administration as you will need to report to office; and
• High standards of personal presentation with a ‘can do’ attitude and ability to work in sensitive care home environments.
